Titan Quest Build: Dagger Spammer

Hello and welcome back. The second build presented today is another -100% recharge character, this type one that primarily uses the Rogue skill Throwing Knife to do damage. This build tries to take advantage of the massive amount of + piercing damage %, daggers' ability to shoot through enemies as well as their unique property of taking up properties from weapons and abilities that other skills do not. The best thing about this build is that you only absolutely need to max the mastery (which you would do anyway), Throwing Knife and Flurry of Knives for it to work. You will, of course, want to max other skills that support your knives and push it into the coveted role of best mob killer in the game (really). I didn't spend as much playing this as I would have liked, primarily because my mouse's right button is malfunctioning which makes constantly using it to attack a drag. Even so, this build was considerably more powerful than 90% of the builds I've tried in Titan Quest throughout my playlife.

Before I get to the gear I'd like to go over other supporting skill options:
From the Rogue tree
Evenom Weapons and its support skills are awesome. With the slow and confusion you'll stop charing enemies in their tracks while your daggers tear them to shreds.

Lay Traps: Decent support, although I mostly used them as distractions while my daggers tore into enemy mobs.

Blade Honing: I was using Onager as my weapon so I didn't put points into this. If you're not having mana problems replace your weapon with a spear or a sword and go for it though, it's quite helpful (especially the increased base piercing damage)

Don't bother with Lethal Strike or Poison Gas Bomb. I realise spamming these skills might be tempting, but Lethal Strike will miss a crapload of subsequent hits after the first one and Poison Gas Bomb's piercing component hardly ever hits, and when it does it leaves me underwhelmed (to say the least).

Second Mastery
I went with Earth (and wish I hadn't, but that's another story) for the core dweller.
TitanCalc build here.
Suffice to say both the Core Dweller and Earth Enchantment help. Storm, on the other hand, would've probably been more beneficial, as would hunting. Hunting for the extra piercing damage and piercing damage reduction, and storm (my preferred alternate), for a multitude of reasons:
Huge elemental damage. In particular, the Tracker's Hood adds a decent amount of lightning damage to your daggers. Throw the Lykaion Malleus in the mix and you're in business.
Squall: reduces resistances and impaired aim doesn't hurt either.

Equipment
Head: Tracker's Hood. No discussion. Huge -recharge, huge +% piercing damage, and lighting damage as a bonus if you go with storm.
Wrists: Archmage's clasp. cast speed to spam daggers faster, huge -recharge If you have a high -recharge Tracker's Hood and Archmage's Clasp you only need about -10-15% more -recharge Weapon: Lykaion Malleus if you're storm. Onager or some sword with lots of piercing if you're anything else.
Leggings: Your pick
Amulet: your pick. polaris is good if you're earth
Rings: Apollo's. No disucssion. The 100+ % piercing damage is excellent
Artifact: Your pick In general, try to get your casting speed to 300, and invest in piercing damage and dexterity (strength won't help like it does with weapon based piercing builds because dagger piercing damage isn't a % of normal damage).

Behold, the Mastermind!

Titan Quest Lab presents the first featured build: the Mastermind.

Class: Spellbreaker (Warfare + Spirit)

Basic gameplay: You summon a lich king, the outsider and ancestral warriors. With 100% recharge you can keep them up indefinitely. Coincidentally, some of that recharge gear also has -energy cost, and with the Battle Standard you can reach -100% in that as well, allowing you to spam any skill you want for free (not to mention the other delicious bonuses like the +1 to skills, boost to your summons' damage and weakening enemies). If 7 summons aren't enough, you can also use Enslave Spirit to gain a huge Diablo 2 style army. Is that all though? Not quite. I didn't use it in the video, but spamming War Horn (with Doomhorn maxed, I would hope) will keep all enemies in a huge radius around you perpetually stunned, and because of the -% to life it wrecks through mobs of non-undead enemies like nothing else. Their health bar can be reduced to almost zero before your summons take the first swing!

Here's a video of him in action (it's pretty old, but you get the idea):

The skill distribution can be found on TitanCalc.com

Equipment (keep in mind that values may vary. For example, the Archmage's Clasp has, on average, about -40% recharge but I've found some with as much as -47%):
I'm only posting what I consider "end game" gear. If you'd rather use something else, go ahead, as long as you have -100% energy cost and recharge.

Head: Hesione's Golden Veil.
Wrists: Archmage's Clasp
Body: Take your pick (I use Calypso's for the +2 to skills)
Legs: Go wild. I like Demonskin Walkers for the +1 to skills (not to mention the mouthwatering resistances)
Shield: Zeno's Third Paradox. Hands down the best defensive item in the game.
Weapon: Lykaion Malleus. -recharge, -energy cost.
Amulet: Polaris. Same reason as Lykaion Malleus
Rings: -energy% cost rings. Off the top of my head, Eye of Horus, Persephone's ring, Cartouche Ring and Seal of the High Priest have about -10% each.
Artifact: Thoth's Glory for the +1 to skills. The Req reduction also helps get all your gear on considering you're spreading points across all 3 attributes.

Speaking of attributes, you only need them to meet requirements. Any perk they offer is nice but unnecessary. Attributes don't help summons and no attribute affects the vitality damage War Horn does. Once you've figured out what you're gonna wear, dump all extra attribute points into health (trust me, you'll need it because despite your large army, every monster's still gonna want a piece of you).

Hello and welcome to the Titan Quest Lab

I'm starting this blog for the purpose of keeping a record of all my Titan Quest builds. Keep in mind that I'm very impatient so I often use TQ Defiler to speed up the leveling and item aquisition so that I can do what I enjoy doing best without unnecessary distractions: take on Legendary. Here's an idea of what's coming up on the Titan Quest Lab:

-100% recharge Spellbreaker summoner - I made this build ages ago. I even have a crappy youtube video of it in action.
-100% recharge Rogue daggerspammer - very versatile, since you only need a handful of skills to make it work, with the rest being up to you. You can either go hunting for more piercing damage, storm for some decent elemental damage (which gets added to your daggers btw), squall and wisp, earth for a core dweller to distract enemies enough to give you a chance to fill them up with daggers. The possibilities are endless.
-Juggernaught. All that stacked armor has always been intriguing, and with a multitude of +%fire damage items it might end up being fairly decent.
